Craving more a more meaningful career? Read this.
If you’ve noticed I’ve been a little quiet lately, it’s because I’ve been soaking up life more than usual—starting with being a guest at a good friend’s wedding in beautiful Mallorca 🍋.
Now I’m in Ibiza, an island that holds a special place in my heart. I spent many of my university summers here, dreaming of one day living somewhere warm, sunny, and full of life.
Today, while working from this stunning destination, I found myself reflecting on who I was back then—studying psychology at university in my hometown of Glasgow.
I used to believe that success—true success, the kind that feels deeply meaningful and fulfilling—was a place I’d arrive one day. It would be glorious. I’d never have to look back or forward, because I’d be there. The finished product.
Oh, how naïve I was..
And yet… how boring would life be if we had nothing left to strive for? No reason greater than ourselves to keep growing, learning, living?
Science now shows us just how important meaning and purpose are—not just for our mental health, but for our overall health and longevity too.
These days, I see the pursuit of a meaningful, satisfying career as a process.
✨ A process of coming home to ourselves.
✨ A process of letting go of what no longer lights us up, to make room for what truly does.
✨ A process of discovering our strengths and leaning into them—knowing we’re never a finished product.
✨ A process of surrendering to the process itself.
We might not have all the answers, be #1 in our field, or be at the “destination” we’re dreaming of.
But we’re on the right train—and that’s enough.
As long as we keep moving forward—and don’t forget to pause and take in the views.
