Life Hacks to Transition to the Colder Months — Gracefully

Let me be honest with you.

I always struggle when the seasons change — when the days get shorter, the light fades, and everything starts to feel… well, a little dull.

I feel it in my heart.

It yearns for the soft embrace of sunshine.
The glistening of light through the trees.
The feeling of sand between my toes.

Part of it is simply being outside less — more rain, less sunlight, fewer chances to soak in the rawness of nature that always makes me feel alive.

And part of it is biological: less sunlight means lower serotonin levels and reduced vitamin D — both of which can affect our mood and energy.

This makes it extra important to look after our mental health, so we can continue to thrive in work and in life.

Over the past few years, I’ve created my own toolkit to move through this season with more grace and ease.

 Here’s what’s helping me right now 👇

1. Refreshing the home environment
I recently gave my space a little autumn refresh — rust-toned cushions, new accessories, and cosy textures everywhere. It’s amazing how much our environment influences our mindset and mood.

I even bought my first happy lamp this year to mimic natural daylight — I’ll let you know how it goes!

2. Taking up a soul-nourishing practice
Think: yin yoga, singing, painting, journaling, or even cooking slow meals.

I rejoined my favourite yoga studio recently and I’m prioritising that over the gym.

It gives me the movement my body craves — but also connection, space, and forced stillness. Unlike the gym, it doesn’t feed my “go, go, go” energy — it helps me soften.

3. Bringing nature indoors
Did you know that indoor plants can reduce stress and boost productivity by up to 15%?

So I’ve filled my home with greenery — each plant reminding me that even in darker seasons, life continues to grow.

4. Engaging in support
You don't have to go it alone. Last month, I re-engaged my coach — not a business coach, but a women’s empowerment & somatic coach.

She holds space for me to feel deeply, reconnect with my body, and remember the version of me that exists beyond the to-do lists. We often talk about business, but the real work is emotional, feminine, and deeply human.

It’s a reminder that true growth doesn’t happen in isolation.

That’s exactly how I work with my own clients too — even though the focus is often on career, ambitions or purpose, we explore the whole human: confidence, self-belief, emotions, relationships, and inner alignment.

Because nothing exists in silos.

So with my tools — the lamp, the yoga mat, the greenery, and my coach — I’m stepping into this colder season with more softness, intention, and grace.

How about you? 💭 What’s one thing you’ll do to nourish yourself as we move into the darker months?

I step into this colder season with conscious intention… I’m also reminded that this kind of work; slowing down, reconnecting, being intentional about what is next; is exactly what we do inside my 1-1 programme for women, SHEThrives.
